Are You Leaving Your House Without Your Armor?

When you get up in the morning you probably have a routine you follow. Each day you

get up, you do the same things. Take a shower, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, and

the list goes on. Are you really preparing yourself each morning to face the day? What does God

want us to do to get ready for our day? The apostle Paul gives us a picture of a Christian getting

ready for their day. He paints a fairly bleak picture, one of a solider preparing for combat and

danger.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of

God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is

not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces

of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore,

take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done

everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having

put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the

gospel of peace; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to

extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword

of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit,

and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints”

(Ephesians 6:10-18).

How often are we lulled into a false sense of security, unprepared for the day we face?

The writer reminds us that it is through God’s power that we will be victorious. Only by

depending on His might and power will we be able to withstand the flaming arrows of the evil

one (Eph. 6:16). We must hold firm to our faith and turn to the Bible for instructions. We must

remain alert and always be ready to kneel in prayer. Are you preparing yourself as you should in

the morning, or are you leaving your house without your armor? ~B Tolbert
