THIS BOOK THE BIBLE

This book called the Bible is the great manual of the soul, it is the textbook of life. Here is a
book which really does answer the question of life. How does it do that? Well, see how it begins.
It does not say, ‘Are you not feeling well’ or ‘Do you want healing?’ ‘Do you want a bit of
happiness and joy? Come along!’ No, that is the way of the cults. That is not the Bible. The Bible
is different. We have a problem and we begin to read… ‘In the beginning God…’ That is the
Bible. You see, the Bible never starts with man — it always starts with God. And the whole
trouble with the modern world is that it starts with man and ends with man, and so it ends in
confusion and chaos. ~Martyn Lloyd-Jones (Facebook, Feb. 13, Bruce Rampy)
I know, I’m back to my “pet-peeve” — our need as God’s people to spend more time in
God’s Word; to fill our minds with those things of God which will help us to live more holy lives
for Him (1 Pet. 1:16); to search out the paths which will lead to life eternal. But sadly, our
tendency today as children of God is to bend God to fit our beliefs and our way of life.
Jack P. Lewis (Professor Emeritus of Harding School of Theology) penned the following:
“Progressive” scholars would make the Bible into a human book, humanly manufactured by
communities. They believe as readers of biblical literature, they could form their own opinions
and add their own cultural biases to what God said. They argue God didn’t say anything; they
simply read it and make their own cultural version of it. They argue that since all have biases,
one cannot objectively understand God’s word. So...they can interpret (add to, subtract from, or
edit) the Bible according to their own thinking and desires.
Others are applauding Scripture as first, but not the only authority. Jesus said He will judge
us by His words (Jn. 12:48), not His words plus human traditions. Rev. 20:11-15 says we’ll be
judged by the things written in His books — not by the books of men. Jesus’ words and His
books will have the only and the last say. They are both first and last. Let us believe the Lord.
We may agree that the Bible is holy inspired by God (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:21), but do we
read it as God’s inspired Word? Do we apply it to our lives as God’s Word leading us to eternal
life? Giving it lip service alone is no better than those “progressive” scholars mentioned above.
Let us look deeply into the Word (Jesus Christ) of life (Jn. 1:1-5)! ~P. Mowrer
